South Wedge -the Online Resource Guide for the South Wedge Neighborhood

What is Operation Identification?

A program sponsored by the South Wedge Planning Committee available to all

members through the SWPC Tool Library at 224 Mt. Hope Ave in which

members can borrow property engravers for use in their own homes. The

engravers are used to put a personal identification on valuable property to make it

less attractive to a burglar or thief.

Why should I engrave an identification number into my property?

Engraving an I.D. into personal property takes the profit out of crime and increases a criminal's risk of getting caught with property engraved by your number.

Most burglars sell their stolen goods, if the criminal knows that the valuables in your home are marked and cataloged, chances are the criminal will move on to an easier target.

Operation I.D. is easy for all SWPC Members:

Sign up for Operation I.D. and pick up your Home Inventory sheet at the SWPC Tool Library

Sign out a personal engraver

Bring it home and engrave an I.D. number on your valuables.

Please do not keep the engraver signed out for more than a week.

Engraving/ Identification Tips:

The best number to use for Identification is your NYS Driver's License number.

  •  This number can be easily identified to you and easily traced by the police

    For example: NY 999 999 999

If you don't have a driver's license, you can get a personal ID card from the DMV or use any other “safe” number

DO NOT USE:

  • Social Security number
  • credit card number
  • bank accounts, etc.

These numbers are hard to trace and they put you at risk for Identity theft.

As always if you have any questions, feel free to Contact SWPC at any time!!
