Urban Pioneers of the South Wedge 1974-1996

  • The Ellwanger Estate 625 Mount Hope Avenue Rochester, NY, 14620 United States (map)

With 120 vacant and boarded houses, a declining business district and increased crime, the question was where to start to rebuild the South Wedge or if it could be revitalized. “Urban Pioneers”, a name that emerged in the early days of the revitalization efforts, symbolized people and organizations that chose to invest time and money in combating the decline in the South Wedge neighborhood. Learn more about the efforts to revitalize the South Wedge from 1974-1996. The presenter is the Reverend Judy Hay, former Executive Director of the South Wedge Planning Committee Inc, and former pastor of Calvary St. Andrew’s Parish on Averill Avenue.
