Get Involved!
One of the things that makes the South Wedge such a vibrant neighborhood is the strong sense of community created by the people who live and work here. As Executive Director of the South Wedge Planning Committee (SWPC), I’m always encouraged by neighbors who want to contribute their time, ideas, and energy to help keep our neighborhood strong and connected.
SWPC works to support and strengthen the South Wedge through community programs, neighborhood improvements, events, and partnerships. The best way to do that is with the involvement of residents, and there are many ways to participate.
Attending a SWPC community meeting is a great place to start. These meetings provide updates on neighborhood initiatives and offer residents an opportunity to share ideas, ask questions, and help shape the direction of community projects.
Residents can also join one of SWPC’s committees. Our committees are where much of the planning and creative thinking happens. Current committees include the Community Engagement Committee, which meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., along with the Special Events Committee. Or join one of these newly formed committees: Fundraising Committee, and the Beautification Committee. Each plays an important role in planning programs, events, and neighborhood improvements.
Community classes or workshops are another way to get involved. Throughout the year we offer programs on topics such as home improvement, neighborhood history, art classes and other educational opportunities that help residents learn new skills while connecting with neighbors.
Volunteering is another meaningful way to participate. SWPC relies on volunteers to help support events like the South Wedge Festival, neighborhood clean-up efforts such as Clean Sweep, family-friendly activities like the Wedge Waddle. Volunteers also help with fundraising efforts that support SWPC’s programs throughout the year.
Community support makes our work possible. Making a donation to SWPC is another way to get involved and help sustain the programs, events, and neighborhood initiatives that benefit the South Wedge.
Lastly, you can also contribute by sharing photos of the South Wedge. If you capture a moment that highlights the beauty or spirit of the neighborhood, send it to us—your photo may appear in our newsletter or on social media.
The South Wedge has always been shaped by the people who live here. I encourage you to get involved and help continue building a vibrant, welcoming community for everyone.
